Ford, a U.S. automaker, has submitted a total of 19 trademark applications with the U.S. Patent and Trade Office in relation to the Metaverse and non-fungible token (NFT) market (USPTO).

The applications submitted on September 15 detail Ford's plans to, among other things, offer downloadable multimedia files that feature "artwork, text, audio, and video featuring automobiles, SUVs, trucks, and vans authenticated by non-fungible tokens (NFTs)" and downloadable virtual goods that feature "automobiles, SUVs, trucks, and vans, land vehicle parts and accessories, and clothing for use in online virtual worlds."

The automaker also intends to provide online virtual versions of cars, SUVs, trucks, and vans, as well as parts and accessories for land vehicles and clothes that can be worn in virtual settings, as entertainment offerings. According to the applications, Ford also plans to present virtual reality and augmented reality exhibitions online.

Due to the submitted trademarks, the group will be allowed to sell virtual cars and apparel under its brands, including Ford, Lincoln, and Troller, through a specialized online marketplace.

Ford is following in the footsteps of other American automakers like Chevrolet with its most recent endeavor. The company had its inaugural NFT event in June 2022, where they gave away an NFT of a lime green Corvette Z06 together with a free 2023 Corvette Z06 car. The starting offer for the auction, which was conducted through the NFT marketplace SuperRare, was ETH 206. The sale received no offers despite the automaker's attempts.
