Acentrik, a Decentralized Data Marketplace for Enterprises based on the Ocean Protocol, is now available in Enterprise Release.
SINGAPORE — Ocean Protocol, the Web3 platform for unlocking data services for AI and business innovation, has collaborated with Acentrik, Mercedes-decentralized Benz's data marketplace, on its recently launched Enterprise Release. Acentrik is an Ocean Market fork that uses the OceanONDA V4 smart contracts and libraries. As part of the collaboration, the most important Ocean features were leveraged and integrated into Acentrik V1.0, as well as key enterprise user adaptations.
Acentrik's collaboration with Ocean Protocol began in 2020, with a proof of concept for Mercedes-Benz exploring decentralized data orchestration. The pilot project was a success, which led to additional collaboration and the development of Acentrik Version 1.0.
Ocean founder, Bruce Pon:
"Acentrik is the result of two years of collaboration to assist in the launch of an enterprise data marketplace based on Ocean technology." We look forward to continuing to support Mercedes-Benz as they take bold steps to lead the pack and usher in the Data Economy."
Srikanth Kaja, Daimler South East Asia's General Manager of Emerging Technologies:
"Acentrik and Ocean have come a long way together — both teams have fostered a dynamic working relationship that has contributed to the success of this collaboration." I'm excited to see what the future holds as we pursue additional topics to bring a much-needed decentralized data marketplace to enterprises today."
Acentrik's mission is to make it easier for enterprises to unlock the value of decentralized data and enable greater data sharing in the community, with the principle of data sovereignty at the core. It is built on the foundation of Ocean's cutting-edge technology. The emphasis will be on developing two compelling use cases:
- To enable businesses to buy and sell data via blockchain.
- To enable businesses to monetize data while maintaining privacy.
Enterprises can now publish datasets with parameters using Acentrik V1.0. They can ensure more specific data is fetched from the endpoint by setting such API parameters. This enables greater flexibility in publishing a dataset with Acentrik and setting appropriate boundaries, made possible by Ocean's smart contracts, Compute-to-Data functionality, and fine-grained permissions to better define access control.
Compute-to-Data
Compute-to-Data is a key component of the Ocean toolset, allowing Acentrik to meet the needs of enterprises interested in sharing and monetizing their data on its marketplace. Enterprises want to protect their intellectual property; compute-to-data enables this by generating a secure environment for data analysis — algorithms can run on the data without exposing the raw data. This feature balances the risks of exposing private data with the benefits of generating new revenue streams. Enterprises can benefit from data transformation across industries by running privacy-preserving compute jobs in the Acentrik marketplace while maintaining data sovereignty.
Permissions with Specificity
Ocean is largely concerned with decentralized access control. Enterprises and other users frequently require more precise methods of specifying and managing access, and Ocean introduced fine-grained permissions to address this need. This feature is used by Acentrik on two levels to establish a secure access control setup for enterprise-grade use cases on its marketplace:
- Role-based access controls at the marketplace level — enterprises can grant different roles to multiple users within the same enterprise to better manage their assets. There are three distinct roles outlined: user, provider, and consumer. Roles are assigned to both the user profile and the wallet to which it is linked. Depending on the enterprise administrator's preferences, a user can be assigned multiple roles to achieve the goals of their organization.
- Enterprises can manage access controls for each asset published by using allow and deny lists at the asset level. Data owners can control who has access to their assets by using their email domain and wallet address.
Token for Asset Management
Previously integrated on the Acentrik marketplace, fungible ERC20 data tokens were built on Ocean's data sharing infrastructure and represent a license to consume datasets on the marketplace. Data management on Acentrik V1.0 has been simplified with the release of OceanONDA V4 and the addition of ERC721 data NFTs. The Acentrik Asset Management Token, based on Ocean's data NFTs, represents asset ownership in the marketplace and supports different licenses for the same base intellectual property.
Intelligent Contracts
The OceanONDA V4 smart contracts and libraries power the Acentrik Marketplace, allowing users to publish data services, deploy and mint data tokens and Acentrik Asset Management Tokens, and consume data services by spending them. Acentrik V1.0 is launching on the Polygon network to provide customers with low gas fees and quick transactions; this is one of many EVM-compatible networks where the Ocean smart contracts are deployed.
Companies can now onboard with Acentrik and explore the marketplace's features, which are now available in Enterprise Release.
